LTHC Ladies 3rd XI 2 at Charwood Sileby Ladies 3

LRHA Ladies – Division 1

Saturday 27th October 2018

Riding high on the win last week, Loughborough Town Ladies 3rd XI made the short trip down the road to Mountsorrel, to play 2nd place in the table Charnwood Sileby Ladies. Charnwood who were demoted last year were going to be tough opposition, with a mixture of experience and speed on their side.  Whilst Town were debuting 3 new players in a side that was still in its infancy.

Captain Sam Dalby as usual managed to lose the toss, making it 3 on the bounce and therefore lost the push back.  This did not seem to affect the enthusiasm with which Town started the game.  Waves of pressure over the half way line was rewarded with numerous short corners, which despite a variety of ideas did not prove fruitful.   Goalkeeper Beth Johnson was seen at one point “dancing” in an attempt to keep warm.

Half way through the first half Town received their 2nd green card in as many games.  This time the player receiving the 2 minute “rest” was Julia Symonds for not retreating fast enough.  During this time Charnwood were not able to capitalise on the man advantage, and Town once back to full strength were able to snatch the 1st goal of the game, scored by Chloe Newman.  However as the half time whistle was about to blow Charnwood pulled level to make it 1-1.

Sam Dalby narrowly avoided a green card after some confusion about substitutions during a short corner.  Some grovelling and explaining saved the day and thankfully she stayed on the pitch.

The 2nd half saw the experience of Charnwood start to show as they scored another 2 unanswered goals and Town were forced to defend a number of short corners.  At one point Lex Barton thought she had made the game equal until it was obvious that the whistle had been blown before she touched the ball.  However a fantastic effort by Charlotte Temmink reduced the deficit to 1. There was however some discussion between the umpires as to whether the goal would stand, thankfully it was awarded.

Town pushed hard to get the equaliser but the game finished with a 3-2.  There were positives to take away and work on for the 2nd game of this double header weekend.   Town now entertain 3rd place in the table Leicester Ladies 5th XI on Sunday.
