LTHC Boys U16s 2 at West Bridgeford Boys U16s 1
England Hockey Junior Championship – U16 Boys Tier 2
Sunday 4th November 2018
It was a game of two halves for Loughborough Town under 16s as they prepared to take on West Bridgeford in their first match of the season. The new squad, with many players making their under 16 debut, appeared to gel in the early stages of the game, but unfortunately Bridgeford struck first and, despite dominating, Town went into the break a goal down.
An inspiring team talk from rookie manager Griffiths revitalised the squad and they went out into the second half with a real sense of belief. Excellent play from star man and speed machine Neil Ruikar left him in acres of space on the top of the D. The clinical finisher proceeded to rifle a powerful shot into the net, drawing the teams level. Town continued to push forward, with the untouchable Adam Carter leading the charge. Kyran Patel capitalised on a defensive error form Bridgeford, creating an excellent opportunity to shoot. He fired in a shot, with Shaylan Chouhan at the backpost ready to execute a prefect deflection to put Town in the lead. The resilience from Town’s defense spearheaded by Captain Jared Borril, was truly commendable. Despite Bridgeford’s best efforts, Town successfully kept the door firmly shut. Eventually the final whistle blew, with Town having bagged 3 vital points in the early stages of the season.
