LTHC Ladies 3rd XI 8 at Market Harborough Ladies 3rd XI 0

LRHA Ladies – Cup: 1st Round

Saturday 12th January 2019

Town Ladies 3rd XI travelled south to Market Harborough on Saturday looking to continue their run of 5 games unbeaten. The team, largely unchanged since their thrilling 2-1 win against Lutterworth before the Christmas break, began the game with confidence; showing Harborough very quickly who was in charge. Grace Jones asserted her authority in midfield, linking with Zoe Bennfors to display some fantastic one-two skills down the line.

Town were awarded more short corners inside the first 15 minutes of the game than they have seen throughout the first half of the season. Iris Broekhuijzen took her place at the top of the D in her first ever attacking short corner. The reason for the decision of Sarah Rose, who had been handed the captain’s armband following the absence of Sam Dalby, quickly became apparent as Broekhuijzen’s shot hit the post. Maddie Herring was quick to capitalise, initiating the storm of goals that was to follow.

A well placed cross from Herring, gave Rose the opportunity to bump the score to 2-0, with Amanda Conradie quick to follow suit taking the half-time score to 3-0.

After the break, Town’s dominance continued as Jess Anstice successfully broke down Harborough’s attack through midfield. Ellen Johns and Hatty Bates solidified Selena Cox’s defence alongside Vicky Ashenden, Ruth Lyons and Rachel Taggart allowing for Town to continue their assault. Jones saw her opportunity, as Bennfors and Herring successfully passed the ball around the keeper allowing Jones to hit the backboard taking Town to 4-0. Continuing the attack, Rose almost took the tally to 5 but was denied by a defensive foot. Feeling confident with the team behind her, Rose stepped up to take the flick awarded by Harriet Galpin, sending the keeper to the left with a slight drop of the shoulder but slipping the ball into the right hand side of the goal. The score was taken to 5. A further 2 goals from Herring, 1 from Bennfors and a first clean sheet for Cox, takes Town to 6 games unbeaten. An 8-0 victory sees the Ladies 3rd XI play Leicester Uni 1s away on the 26th January to continue their cup campaign. MOM to Maddie Herring for a confident, impressive display up front as well as a hat trick. DOD to Sarah Rose for an oopsie on the sideline giving the ball away.
