LTHC Men’s 3rd XI 4 at Ashby Men’s 1st XI 5
MRHA T2 – East Midlands 1
Saturday 26th January 2019
After a short trip to Ashby, a high scoring encounter ended in an unfortunate loss for Town. Ashby had the better of the first half and took a 2-0 lead into half time, courtesy of some questionable marking from the entire Town team, who switched off as Ashby countered from a quickly taken free hit, before they doubled their lead shortly after. Liam Brown then made a goal line save from a short corner, whilst Joe Oram had to be alert to make some smart saves to keep the score at 2-0.
Once again, the half time team talk from Rory Cook seemed to spark town into life. A much-improved town side were clinical from short corners, with Captain Peter Hayes scoring two to bring the scores level at 2-2, before Ashby scored twice more to restore there 2 goal cushion. Jono Griffiths then showed that this town side can score goals from the back post. Before the pick of the bunch, a lovely counter attack goal, with good work from Lawrie Bayne and Hayes down the right-hand side finding George Gutteridge, who’s Bergkamp flick left the defence for dead, before squaring for Ollie Jephcott to finish.
Sadly, Ashby scored a winning goal with just minutes left on the clock, leaving Town without enough time for an equaliser, and they fell to another defeat. Despite that, there were many positives to take from a game that included 4 second half goals against a team currently second place in the league.
