LTHC Men’s 2nd XI 5 vs Khalsa Men’s 1st XI 0

MRHA T1 – Midlands 2

Saturday 2nd February 2019

Having had a disappointing last weekend away at Leek, Town were looking to bounce back with a good win. With a couple of players returning to the team, Town were optimistic they could do some damage and rebuild their goal difference.  The team decided not to turn up at the actual meet time but rather 20 minutes early, with only Henderson, Shepherd and Laurie turning up at the completely reasonable time of 12:50 (for a 13:30 start). Despite this, the team looked ready, and last weeks disappointment seemed to have been put well into the past.

The match started off fairly slowly with neither team creating many chances. However, after 10 minutes or so, Town started to play some good quick hockey, using triangles to cut the khalsa midfield and defence apart. After some good work in and around the D, the ball fell to Harrow who had no trouble in dispatching the ball into the back of the net from a full yard out.

The rest of the first half carried on in a similar fashion with Town continuing to play quick and decisive hockey. Two more goals came from more good hockey, with another deflection from Harrow and very effective one touch shoot on the volley from Sibson, winding back the years.

The second half saw more of Town attacking and breaking down the Khalsa defence, while not letting the opposition get into the D once in the entire match thanks to a superb performance from the agile partnership of Otter and Shepherd. Two more goals came in the second half, both from deflections, both from Harrow, clearly intent on stealing all the limelight this week.

The match ended 5-0, a very good performance from the entire Town team and a great response from last week. Hopefully Town will be able to continue this form till the end of the season with some big matches coming up. MOM goes to Harrow (bit selfish, but well deserved) and DOD (unfairly and with no real backing) to Shepherd.
