LTHC Ladies 3rd XI 3 at Market Harborough Ladies 2nd XI 0
LRHA Ladies – Division 1
Saturday 9th February 2019
Ladies 3rd XI travelled south to Market Harborough looking to take the win and move into 2nd place in the league in their first match of 2019. With Harborough just above Town in the league Town expected a tough game. The game started well with captain Sam Dalby winning the coin toss and electing to tactically change ends. With the low sun she hoped Town could capitalise early with Harborough having to defend into the sun.
The tactical decision worked with Town taking the lead through Dalby after some poor defending from Harborough allowed her to beat the keeper at close range, and make the game 1-0. Numerous short corners followed though Town couldn’t make them count. Eventually Town broke Harborough’s defense and Dalby scored her 2nd of the game, with about 10 minutes to half-time.
With Town feeling like the score should have been much more, they started the second half positively with keeper Selena Cox hardly seeing anything of the ball thanks to a solid defensive barrier created by Iris Broekhuijzen, Rachel Taggart, Zara Bailey, Julia Symons, Alex Penry and Charlotte Temmicnk. Whilst Town wanted more goals the Harborough keeper had other ideas and continually made some fine saves. Town eventually added to their tally with a well worked short corner routine. Amanda Conradie injected the ball to the left slip where Dalby fired the ball back into the near post where Conradie deflected the ball into the open net for a 3-0 lead.
The win takes Town into 2nd place in the league, and next Sunday’s rescheduled game will see them looking for another 3 points against Leicester University Ladies 2nd XI to solidify their position.
