LTHC Men’s 1st XI 3 at Boots Men’s 1st XI 1

MRHA T1 – Midlands Premier

Saturday 9th February 2019

After a tough loss to Khalsa last week Loughborough Town 1st XI hit back this week with an emphatic win over Midlands Premier league strugglers Boots 1st XI. There was a worrying start to the game when Murdoch was struck on the head by the ball and subsequently the game was delayed until he was safely off the pitch. Fortunately he looks to be recovering well.

It was Town who took advantage first after the restart, with Godwin putting the ball away from an excellent individual run and cross from Ratcliff. Town quickly doubled their lead through a powerful back-foot shot from Slaney. As Town looked to increase their lead further, Boots capitalised on some sloppy defending to get a goal back on the counter attack to make it 2-1.

Despite this, attacking pressure was maintained by Town in the second half, and they eventually found a third through Godwin tucking away another, this time from an inch perfect cross delivered by White. Though Boots put up pockets of resistance throughout the game, the Loughborough defensive rocks of Proctor and JT crushed any opposition hopes of a route back into the game.

A solid all-round team performance means Town go into next week’s meeting with Barford Tigers, brimming with confidence.
