LTHC Ladies 3rd XI 3 vs Charnwood Sileby Ladies 1

LRHA Ladies – Division 1

Saturday 2nd March 2019

On a bright early sunny Saturday morning Town entertained top of the table and unbeaten Charnwood Sileby Ladies who were six points ahead of them. Needing a win to remain in contention for the league title, the ladies were more than up for this game.

A tense start by both teams saw each side gain entry into the D but neither side could make any clear cut chances. Town eventually took the lead when a ball was fired into the D by Jess Anstice, who found Sam Dalby on the P spot and her acut deflection sent the ball between the keepers leg, 1-0 Town.

Town then started to play the ball around gaining a few chances but nothing clear cut to extend their lead. Then against the run of play Charnwood equalised through a well taken goal. A long ball was fired through from the back and found an unmarked Charnwood forward in the D. The initial shot was saved well by Selena Cox, though the rebound was fired into the goal by the unmarked forward chasing in for the rebound.

Half-time came with the score level at one a piece. Coaches Parry and Curd along with captain Dalby gave wise words which would hopefully lead to unlocking the Charnwood defense for more goals.

Town’s 2nd goal came after some sustained pressure in Charnwoods half. In what is becoming Sarah Rose’s trade mark way of scoring. She was again ideally placed on the back post to tap in the goalkeepers missed clearance.

Receiving the ball just outside the top of the left D Eleanor Grainge beat two players to gain entry into the D. She then hit the ball towards the goal. However, Grainge totally mishit the ball and it rolled slowly across the goal line totally fooling the keeper, who wasn’t expecting it at that speed. Town now had breathing space.

The game ended with Town taking a well deserved 3-1 win which keeps their title dreams alive. MOM went to Grace Jones for her undeniable effort in midfield.

Whilst Town will still need other games to go their way, they still remain in title contention with an impressive run of nine game unbeaten and winning the last five (only conceding two goals). Next week game Town travel south to Market Harborough, where they’ll be looking to add to this impressive winning streak.
