LTHC Men’s 3rd XI 4 at Coalvile Men’s 2nd XI 0
MRHA T2 – East Midlands 1
Saturday 16th March 2019
Loughborough Town 3rd XI arrived in what were familiar sights for midfielder Charlie Reynolds determined to do the double over local rivals Coalville. Town were roused by the inspirational words of their captain Peter Hayes, and therefore started strong.
After a period of dominance the first goal came to Town’s llethal weapon George Gutteridge who unleashed a snapshot into the bottom corner with exceptional precision. Gutteridge continued his scintillating form with a deflection into the corner after an incisive pass from Hayes. Town stayed on the front foot for the remaining minutes of the first half and Gutteridge was able to complete his hat-trick with a poacher’s finish in the final moments of the half. At 3-0 going into half time, Town were in a strong position but knew they hadn’t won yet.
The performance from the away side dropped a little in the 2nd half but the balance of play still lay in Town’s favour. The defence of both Rory Cook and Mark Dalby was impeccable, with the Coalville attacks breaking like water on rock, epitomising the players’ resilience and determination. After a series of almost identical short corners Town finally converted with the Hayes & Gutteridge combo working wonders once more. Town 4-0. A little shaky play from right back Mike Reina, who suddenly obtained delusions of grandeur. He attempted to copy the work of Arjen Robben by cutting in from the right flank, however Reina’s emulation went too far on multiple occasions when he decided to kick the ball.
Overall, Town’s performance was exemplary, with their stripped down team of 12 battering the fully stocked Coalville. The win, Town’s 4th of the season completed the double over local rivals Coalville, and next week they’ll have a chance to do the same when Town entertain Northampton Saints 2nd XI.
