LTHC Ladies 3rd XI 1 at Ashby Ladies 3rd XI 0

LRHA Ladies – Division 1

Saturday 23rd March 2019

Loughborough Town Ladies 3rd XI travelled up to Ashby on Saturday off the back of a great track record having not lost a league game since 27th October 2018.  Town went into the game on a high fighting for the chance of promotion. It was a hard fought game with lots of chances, with Selena Cox in goal saving anything Ashby had to offer. MOM Rachel Taggart had some great runs up the left hand side but Town couldn’t covert. Both teams pushed hard but it was still deadlocked at 0-0 going into half time.

The second half started with Town persistence paying off, some great team work and passing lead to Chloe Newman slotting the ball into the goal. Ashby fought back and despite brilliant defending from Ellen Johns they passed the ball around her and put it in at back post to draw the home side level.

Both teams put everything into the game and Ashby certainly had more chances. On one of their attacks they entered the D, causing some scrappy defensive play by Town.  Under pressure Amelia Vance was deemed to have stick tackled the player and after much deliberation by the umpires awarded a flick to Ashby and a yellow card to Vance (on her debut for the team). A calm Ashby player slotted the ball past the outstretched leg of goalie Cox.  2-1 to Ashby.

Ashby continued the pressure but Town fought back but couldn’t convert any of their chances.  Another stick tackle earned Vicky Ashenden a green card (and also DOD), though in a game which was umpired in a fair and consistent way, Ashby were also on the end of two green cards.

The game finished 2-1 but all is not lost as a win in the final game of the season next week could still secure promotion for Town next season.
