LTHC Men’s 3rd XI 5 at Derby Men’s 1st XI 2
MRHA T2 – East Midlands 1
Saturday 12th October 2019
Town travelled up the M1 to play newly promoted Derby 1st XI hoping looking to build on last week’s performance and bring home 3 points.
Town started the quicker of the two teams, and within the first few minutes of the game Town opened the scoring through Jono Griffiths with well worked piece of play. It was swiftly followed by a second, which was neatly dispatched by Nathan Byrne. However, moments before the end of the first half Town, an injury left Town with only 11 men.
After halftime Town regrouped and left everything they had on the pitch, yet Derby managed to sneak in a drag flick, with a well practice short corner routine. Town quickly answered back with a fantastic counter attacking goal scored by Kaylan Mistry. With the addition of Jono Griffiths’ second goal of the game, which was served to him on a plate by the Skipper Pete Hayes (his 4th primary assist of the game), Town looked much more comfortable.
Next came another outstanding counter attacking goal, this time skilfully put away in the bottom corner by Elliott Crocker. Town believed that they had put the game to bed, however Derby still had a little left in them and scored a scrappy goal in the dying minutes of the game. The final whistle blow and Town ended victorious.
On the whole a very strong performance from the entire team, with a notable performance from Man of the Match Mark Dalby.
