LTHC Men’s 2nd XI 3 vs Burton Men’s 1st XI 2
MRHA T1 – Midlands 2
Saturday 26th October 2019
Loughborough Town 2nd XI were looking to bounce back after a shock defeat the previous week, coming up against league leaders Burton 1st XI.
The game started in terrible weather conditions but Town dealt with it building pressure on the Burton defence front the off. Unfortunately two sloppy errors from Town resulted in them being 2-0 down inside the first 10 minutes. This kick started Loughborough who spent the rest of the half camped in Burton territory making multiple chances but struggling to convert.
Having been in this situation before, the half time team talk outlined a simple game plan for Town to take control of the game. It was centre back Shepherd that got Town on the scoresheet, with his first goal for the club, half volleyed home after some clever 3D skills. This sparked Loughborough back into life, with captain Lamb winning a short corner after some skillful play down the left wing. This was duly dispatched by Megicks with a brilliantly positioned drag flick into the bottom corner.
Sensing a victory, Town pushes on and piled on the pressure and continued to create more chances. It was a reverse stick effort from Parry that put the home side ahead for the first time in the game.
The last ten minutes saw some resolute defending from the whole Loughborough team winning back possession time and time again. A rash challenger from man of the match Henderson however, led to a corner for Burton on their first venture into the Loughborough half. This was cleared by the Town defence, however five minutes later Town were back defending another short corner, this to be the last moment of the match. Keeper Dhutia saw off the drag flick confirming a victory for Town and showing that they can take on any team in the league.
Town look to continue this form away against Streetly 1st XI next week.
