LTHC Men’s 1st XI 5 vs University of Warwick Men’s 1st XI 3

MRHA T1 – Midlands Premier

Saturday 2nd November 2019

The Men’s 1st XI welcomed the University of Warwick 1st XI, with Loughborough looking to get back to their winning ways after a disappointing loss against Birmingham the week before.

Town started strong, putting pressure on the Warwick defence. Whilst dominating play Town still managed to concede a short corner which was dispatched low and hard into the Town’s goal. Responding immediately Town scored a short corner which was converted by Curd’s flick, after the Warwick post player allowed the ball to roll over the line into the Goal. Town then conceded another from a quick counter attack.  Ratcliff has a chance to level the score on the back post but managed to put the ball wide of an open goal. Shortly before half time, White on a brilliant run down the left put the ball past the keeper to level to score going into half time.

Town came out of the blocks in the second half and quickly dominated play and moved the ball round the Warwick team, punishing the students’ gameplay. The score quickly became 3:2, 4:2 and then 5:2 after a redemption goal by Ratcliff, then Capel and a moment of brilliance from Hoddle. The game continued in Town’s favour though they did conceded a final goal for the game to finish 5:3.

Town move on next week looking for the next 3 points facing their next student opposition in the form of Loughborough Students 2nd XI. Town currently sit 3rd in the table maintaining their strong start to the season.
