LTHC Men’s 3rd XI 2 vs Berkswell & Balsall Common Men’s 1st XI 5
MRHA T2 – East Midlands 1
Saturday 16th November 2019
The looming threat of rain following midweek flooding accompanied Loughborough Town Men’s 3rd XI into the twelve o’clock game. They faced a similarity table-placed Berkswell & Balsall side known for their organised approach to play.
A mixed start from Town saw the game mostly open in the first half. The away team creating multiple chances, however lacking clinical finishing, and Town keeper Jaimin Metcalf standing in the way, they were unable to capitalise on all except one. No such lack of finishing was present in Town front man Jono Griffiths, as he calmly placed his first goal into the top right-hand corner. Following it up not long after with an elegant deflection into the upper netting from a powerful strike from the top of the D. Town found themselves ahead 2-1 going into the break.
After a stern half time talk from captain Peter Hayes; Town re-entered the pitch knowing their lead would not be easily held. Evidently, chances came few and far between against an ever enthusiastic and organised opposition. Unaided by two cards (one yellow for each side), Town’s lead was eventually broken by an equalising goal shortly after the half recommenced, and despite effort to resist, three more followed. Final score 5-2 to Berkswell.
Man of the match went to Rory Cook for his characteristic solid defensive performance in the back line.
