LTHC Men’s 3rd XI 0 at Atherstone Adders Men’s 1st XI 6

MRHA T2 – East Midlands 1

Saturday 23rd November 2019

This week the Men’s 3rd XI faced top of the league, Atherstone Adders 1st XI, away from home. The game was always going to be a tough one, with Atherstone having won every game of the season so far and averaging around 8 goals per game.

The game started fairly even, with the first 15-20 minutes being goalless despite chances for both teams to take the lead. However, following an intercepted pass from a Town free hit, Town found themselves a goal down. For the rest of the half they faced attack after attack, with the occasional counter-attack from Town. By halftime Atherstone had scored two more goals, both coming from short corners.

The halftime talk this week wasn’t particularly negative or positive, as the team had defended relatively well, but had not made the most of their chances going forward.

Atherstone had received two green cards just before the end of the first half, meaning they started the second half with nine. Unfortunately, Town didn’t take advantage of this, as they allowed Atherstone to just pass it round the back for two minutes with no real pressure. Again, the game was relatively even in this half, with both teams having chances, however Town failed to make the most of their chances, whereas Atherstone were fairly clinical. The game ended 6-0, which is less than their average win, but still a fairly convincing loss for the team.

Man of the Match this week was Matt Horsfall, mainly for his movement off the ball, which allowed for the creation of the majority of Town’s scoring chances.

Next week the Men’s 3rd XI face Panthers (Leicester) 1st XI, in what can be considered a must win game in order to stay in the top half of the table.
