LTHC Men’s 2nd XI 3 at Rugby & East Warwickshire Men’s 1st XI 1

MRHA T1 – Midlands 2

Saturday 30th November 2019

The Men’s 2nd XI went into the game with Rugby & East Warwickshire Men’s 2nd XI off the back of a hard fought win against Khalsa and looking to repeat the trick. Despite missing some key players from the previous week, Town were confident of picking up a result.

That confidence was tested early on as Jack Chiswell casually ignored an aerial ball allowing rugby to score past keeper Vishal Dhutia.

As with the previous week Town’s increased mental strength was on show in the moments shortly after. A sweeping move by Gavin Guest and Matt Parry lifted hopes as they cut through the Rugby defence only for Guest to decide to go for the spectacular reverse lob. As I’m sure everyone would suspect, it didn’t end well. However that attack lifted town and soon after a double spin by David Henderson and Ryan Hatley resulted in Guest tapping in from a yard out.

With Rugby on the back foot Town sensed blood and Guest fed debutant Matt Horsfall who beautifully miscontrolled past the keeper, giving Town a 2-1 lead. Half time swiftly followed and inspiring words from captain Adam Lamb and Henderson put Town in the mood for more.

The third swiftly followed. A sweeping break by Lawrie Bayne, Lamb and Hatley lead to the latter sweeping home on his reverse. Rugby did put Town under pressure for the last 15 minutes but some resolute defending and surprise saves from Dhuita kept them at bay.

The game ended 3-1 and left Town looking up and hoping to break clear of Stone Men’s 1st XI next week (in the early game on Saturday) before heading into a well deserved Christmas break!
