LTHC Men’s 2nd XI 1 at Telford & Wrekin Men’s 1st XI 5

MRHA T1 – Midlands 2

Saturday 11th January 2020

Loughborough Town 2nd XI started the second half of the season with a long trip to face the top of the league Telford and Wrekin 1st XI on a very windy afternoon. Due to a number of injuries and the late illnesses, the away side knew they were going to be up against it with only 11 players willing to travel.

Telford started the livelier side and soon opened a two goal lead following mistakes from some normally dependable Loughborough players. As is often the case this year, being behind spurred Town into action as they began to grow in the game creating several chances. The best of which falling to Matt Horsfall after a brilliant turnover from Hatley, feeding captain Lamb who selflessly squares the ball to Horsfall who could not convert.

As the second half started, once again Town found themselves a further two goals behind in quick succession. Again this sparked Loughborough into life and multiple chances were created in the second half and Town beginning to build pressure. Unfortunately a horror challenge from Henderson resulted in his first yellow card of the decade. Town pushed on despite being down to ten men, with a goal finally coming for George Gutteridge (though it could have been a couple more if chances had been converted). Returning back to a full eleven, Town continued to push hard, unfortunately conceding a breakaway goal and ultimately losing 5-1.

A game with several errors and missed chances, another day could have gone a different way. Town host Harborne 2nd XI next week, hopeful to return to winning ways.
