LTHC Men’s 5th XI 3 at Market Harborough Men’s 3rd XI 1
MRHA T3 – South East 3
Saturday 18th January 2020
Loughborough Town 5th XI travelled down to Market Harborough looking to maintain their winning streak.
Town took the early initiative but failed to capitalise from some well-earned short corners with Ian Morrissey coming close with a powerful flick which struck the crossbar.
With both sides goalless at half time Town applied early pressure at the start of the half resulting in a goal from Jack Brierley after excellent work from James Lamb in the opposition D. Soon after a short corner was earned, and Ian Morrissey stepped up to double Town’s lead with a strong strike into the bottom right corner.
With only one sub on the bench energy levels began to drop allowing Market Harborough back into the game and a quick break from midfield led to Market Harborough making it 2-1.
A poor tackle from Morrissey led to the only green card of the game and Town feared the worst. However, galvanized by the loss of their captain Jack Brierley made it 9 goals in 7 games with a deft flick over the advancing keeper on the reverse stick.
The game continued to be scrappy affair until the final whistle. The 3-1 victory making in 5 wins in a row for a side looking to take better form into their rearranged match against a strong Hampton in Arden side the following day.
