LTHC Ladies 3rd XI 2 vs Charnwood Sileby Ladies 1st XI 1

LRHA Ladies – Premier Division

Saturday 22nd February 2020

After suffering a series of heavy defeats in recent games Loughborough Town Ladies 3rd XI knew how much was at stake, a chance to continue fighting to stay in the league they were promoted into last year.  A loss against this week’s competitors Charnwood Sileby would virtually guarantee their demotion.

Town started with passion, something that they would need for the full 70 minutes, as Charnwood also knew what was at stake for them.  A win for Town would place Charnwood into the relegation zone not something that they wanted any more than Town wanted to stay there.  Both teams saw a good amount of pressure in the first half but Town edged it with a series of penalty corners being awarded, but not converted.  However strong pressure in the D resulted in Captain Sam Dalby scoring after the ball took a deflection off the post just before half time.

Not surprisingly Charnwood came out strong in the 2nd half and after about 15 minutes managed to level the score with a rocket shot into the far corner.  In an end to end game Town managed to remain strong despite Henrietta Lewis earning herself a green card.  Dalby’s second goal came after Fiona Knowles won the ball on the left hand side and drove up the pitch.  Linking with Lewis Town pushed hard towards the D, where Jo Hatley drew the kipper out then slipped the ball square to Dalby for an easy push into the net 2-1.

With about 5 minutes to go Charnwood pulled their keeper in an attempt to score the equalizer, however Town marked tight and held in to secure the win, which moved them out of relegation and above both Charnwood and next week’s opposition Melton.  With this win and three games left in the season Town now control their own fate as to whether they will be playing in the Premier league next year.
