LTHC Men’s 3rd XI 1 vs Nottingham Men’s 1st XI 2
MRHA T2 – East Midlands 1
Saturday 22nd February 2020
An important game for the Men’s 3rd XI this week as a win against the visitors would move them above Nottingham 1st XI in the table. All signs pointed towards that being a possibility as Town would have fresh legs on the bench this week.
Town started the game well for the first five minutes with some good possession though nothing of note in Nottingham’s D. The away side then got into the game and had relentless pressure in Town’s 23 forcing Town to defend well. That pressure would eventually benefit the away side as the goal came for Nottingham, as they took the important 1-0 lead. Town did start to play some good hockey near the end of the first half but nothing to trouble the Nottingham keeper.
Only down 1-0 at halftime Town knew they were still in the game, though a big half was needed. Both sides came out playing some good hockey, with Town having some good chances to get the early equaliser, though these couldn’t be capitalised on. Nottingham then caught Town on a fast break to double their lead. Town kept battling, and eventually put a goal on the scoreboard, Jono Griffiths scoring his tenth of the season. That was to be the end of the scoring for both sides, as Nottingham took a 2-1 win and vital three points for their campaign.
Town travel to Bablake next week to take on mid-table Berkswell & Balsall Common 1st XI, which will be another tough game as Town continue their fight for survival near the bottom of the table.
