LTHC Men’s 2nd XI 1 at Chesterfield Men’s 1st XI 2

MRHA T1 – Midlands 2

Saturday 22nd February 2020

Loughborough Town 2nd XI travelled to Chesterfield in good spirits for what they knew would be a tough game.

Chesterfield came out of the blocks in the early minutes, clearly showing their comfort on a tricky pitch. The home side peppered the goal only to be denied by some excellent saves from Vishal Dhutia. Loughborough settled down and started to show their mettle and some slick passing. Town took the lead with a good goal from Man of Match George Gutteridge.

Going into the second half with a 1-0 lead, Town knew it was going to be a tough half. Eventually the pressure from Chesterfield told as they equalised from a short corner. What followed can only be described as an inexplicable moment of madness from the Town keeper as he decided to show off his step-over skills and let a slow roller in for Chesterfield to take the lead. Town rallied, with good work and spirit all over the pitch. They thought they were to be given a chance to attack against a team without a keeper, but alas the apparent foul from the opposition keeper wasn’t given. Whilst the 2-1 defeat was unfortunate, Town’s spirits remained high and the results will come.
