LTHC Ladies’ 3rd XI 3 vs Rugby & East Warwickshire 3rd XI 1
Midlands Women’s Division 4 Nene / Charnwood
On Saturday Loughborough Town Ladies 3s played against Rugby and East Warwickshire 3s who were sitting second in the league, which meant there was a strong challenge ahead. However, the team felt confident that they were up for the challenge after a disappointing loss the week before against the top of the table.
The visitors started strongly from the first whistle and Town found themselves defending a number of strong attacks, which resulted in a number of penalty corners, however Town were up to the job and defended their goal much to the opposition’s frustration. Town had a few of their own chances which likewise were rebuffed, meaning as the half time whistle blew the score line was 0-0.
After a positive and motivating team talk at half time, Town was ready to continue their excellent play. And it did not take long before the forward line of Hana Rasheed, Emily Quinn and Sam Dalby connected beautifully to set up the first goal. Quinn picked up the ball on the wing, who passed to Rasheed who laid a beautiful ball for Dalby to chase, who one on one with the keeper slipped the ball to her right and into the net, 1-0. The lead was short lived as within five minutes as Rugby equalised with their own strong attacking play, 1-1.
Throughout the entire second half, Town tinned to piled on the pressure. As the game entered the last fifteen minutes, Town again played some excellent quick passes putting Quinn in for her first goal. Rasheed again sent a beautiful pass into the D which Quinn deflected past the keeper making it 2-1. Quinn’s second goal did not take much longer, as Dalby ‘s initial shot was saved but the rebound was pounced on by Quinn to make the score 3-1 to Town. As the final whistle blew, there were cheers from all Town players, who were overjoyed with an amazing win against a top team in the league! A great game with excellent play from everyone!
Next week Town are again at home as they host Towcester 4s and they will be looking to build on this week’s performance to take another three points.
