LTHC Men’s 3rd XI 1 vs Loughborough Students’ 4th XI 3

Midlands Men’s Division 5 East

On a rare sunny mid-afternoon, great for hockey, Loughborough Town 3rd XI hosted Loughborough Students’ 4th XI is a closed fought game. For the most part of the game it was eventually matched with both sides moving the ball around well playing good hockey.  Town went down 1-0 before evening the scores. Thomas Haworth-Edwards scoring his seventh of the season after finishing off the slick penalty corner routine. Students’ scored again before the half-time whistle to go 2-1 up. The second half produced only one more goal as Students’ took the 3-1 win. A much better performance from Town this week, as they look yo take this into next week’s game against Leicester Westleigh 1st XI.

LTHC Ladies’ 3rd XI 0 vs Rugby & East Warwickshire 3rd XI 3

Midlands Women’s Division 4 Nene / Charnwood

Coming off a three-game winning streak Town 3rd XI headed to play Rugby and East Warwickshire 3rd XI this weekend. With only twelve players available it was going to be a hard game for all.

After a high tempo start from both teams’, Rugby has some strong opportunities on goal that Town’s defence did well to keep out of the goal. A strong spell from Town saw them have two great opportunities to score; Emily Quinn running the baseline with an excellent solo attempt on goal and a second beautiful cross to Sam Dalby, who’s shot just wide of the post. Rugby built up the pressure before half time and with the overload managed to score a goal. The score at half time was 1-0.

Rugby had a lot of the possession in the second half keeping the defence working hard. Great clear outs from Annabelle Page and excellent saves from Kate Horrigan kept the score low despite the pressure. Rugby did manage to get two further well worked goals in the second half leaving the final score 3-0 to Rugby.
