LTHC Ladies’ 3rd XI 0 vs Leicester City 4th XI 3

Midlands Women’s Division 4 Nene / Charnwood

On a rainy windy Saturday afternoon (all thanks to storm Eunice) Loughborough Town 3rd XI played away against second placed Leicester City 4th XI. Leicester started the game as the stronger team applying pressure early, but Town responded well and pressed back, with the ball swapping ends very quickly and effortlessly. Leicester’s players were skilful in midfield and upfront where they continued to test Town’s defence. In one such encounter Leicester entered the D only to be fouled by Town, which resulted in them being awarded a penalty stroke. With calm composure Leicester stepped up and converted it, despite Town’s keeper Kate Horrigan nearly making the save. 1-0 to Leicester. Town didn’t let this dishearten them, and applied pressure themselves resulting in a scoring chance which was initially awarded but after an umpire discussion it was rightly disallowed, and the score remained 1-0 to Leicester.

The second half started and Town reset and started strong, winning a series of penalty corners. However; despite their best-efforts Town were unable to convert. Leicester was determined not to let Town have the win and continued to push hard themselves. On a couple of breakaways in midfield, Leicester attacked hard and converted two chances to put the game out of the reach of Town. The game ended 3-0 to Leicester.

Next week Town are at home to seventh placed Towcester 3rd XI who are one place above them in the table, though level on points.  Town will be looking for a win after a 3-1 defeat in the away fixture.
